A Call to Devotion:
Here´s a letter from Sylvia: Hi John: Lately I have felt the Niño de Atocha calling me into devotion. I asked the Holy Child for a sign if in fact He was calling out to me. That evening my husband came home from his mother's home. She passed away a month ago and her children are going through the difficult process of taking care of all her personal belongings. He told me he left me an antique picture in the living room. When I went to see what it was, it was a picture of the Santo Niño de Atocha. I guess this was my answer! I would really like to have a Novena in English. Are you aware of any? I have found several on the internet in Spanish, but I prefer to read in English. Are there any in English? Sylvia My Reply: Sylvia, Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I don´t know of any official prayer to the Santo Niño de Atocha, but this is the prayer on the side of the votive candle they sell here in Mexico. Another Letter from Sylvia: John: I did find this prayer in English. I really like it. On Christmas morning I prayed to the Santo Niño. I turned on the TV to watch Mother Angelica on EWTN. The topic: THE SANTO NIÑO DE ATOCHA!!!! I really really need a prayer in English. Anyway, this is the one I am currently saying. Sylvia |

Oh Miraculous Infant of Atocha! Cast Thy merciful look upon my troubled heart, so inclined to pity. Be softened by my prayer, and grant me these favors which I ardently implore of Thee: (Mention your requests). Take from me all affliction and despair, all trials and misfortunes with which I am laden. For Thy Sacred Infancy's sake, send me now the consolation and aid and grace that I may praise Thee with the Father and Holy Ghost, forever and ever. Amen O Divine Child of Atocha, please hear my prayer, and grant my petition. |

Another Letter from Sylvia:
John: I found a short prayer in Spanish for families on the back of a prayer card. I have no idea where I got it - the Santo Niño de Atcoha continues to attract my attention. This Sunday as you know was the Feast of the Holy Family. I am a lector in my parish and I read this Sunday morning. During the mass I was inspired to write a prayer to the Santo Nino de Atocha. I used the Spanish prayer I found earlier that morning and elaborated. I have been a social worker for many years. I worked primarily with abused and neglected children, and with persons caught in domestic violence, alcoholism and drug abuse. Because I have ample training in parenting skills and am also a Certified Spiritual Director, I wrote a Catholic parenting program which I taught in my parish. As a social worker I saw first hand how the family is under attack by the evil one. Furthermore, I saw how he uses alcoholism and drug abuse to destroy the families from within. Consequently, I was inspired to write a book that I have been working on now for almost a year. It's called "Torrents of Grace and Mercy." It is a spiritual guide for alcoholics and drugs addicts based on the Divine Mercy Devotion. Because of my compassion for persons caught in addictions and dysfunctional families I have a tender place in my heart for families. Attached is the prayer I composed for families. I have been corresponding with a nun from the St. Faustina's convent in Warsaw, Poland. The Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy are likewise praying for the book. They too work with alcoholics and drug addicts in Poland and would like to see my book published since it is based on the Devotion of Divine Mercy and would be useful for their ministry. Please keep the intention of my book in your prayers. Sylvia |

About Miracles:
There are times in our lives when we need special help. Sometimes our problems are severe, and without solution. These are times when we have done everything in our power, and nothing seems to work. This is when we begin to think about Miracles. One time, in a very old church in Mexico, I was talking to a priest about these special times in our lives. Here is what he told me: "If you want to believe, then it means that you really do believe." "The next step is action", he said. "That action is to pray and to be with others who believe in Miracles and nourish our faith." "Remember, the Miracles we ask for happen in God´s own time, and not our own. One must be very patient and wait." |
